Elimination Round

• Each category contains a set number of competitors, as determined by the organisers after the Demo Submissions.
• The UK Championship competiton shall comprise 32 competitors.
• The Women's Championship shall comprise 6-8 competitors.
• The Groups Championships shall comprise 4-6 groups (2 beatboxers per group only).
• Competitors can be in both the solo battles and the groups.
• Each competitor shall have 2 mins to showcase and try to impress the judges and crowd.
• The judges shall score each competitor.
• After all of the elimination showcases have taken place, there will be a 2 hour break before the main battles.  The judges shall score and seed the competitors during this time.
• The number of competitors through to the finals/women's finals/groups finals shall comprise 16/4/4 competitors respectively.
• The judges’ decision remains final.

Battles/Finals Format

• Top 16: This round is comprised of the 16 winners of the eliminations.  The battles are seeded as per the scores from the eliminations, with the 1st place finisher facing the 8th, 2nd vs 9th, 3rd vs 10th, etcetera.  The battles are 2 x 1 min.
• Quarter Final: The 8 winners of the Top 16 face each other. Each pair will be called to the stage in turn, and battle for 2 x 1 minute.
• Semi Final: The four remaining competitors face off in the Semi-Final. The pairs will be called to the stage in turn, and battle for 2 x 1 minute.
• Battle for 3rd:  In the battle for 3rd place the competitors battle for 2 x 1 minute.  
• Final: The final is a 2 x 2 minute battle.
• The judges’ decision remains final.

The selection process for the UK Championships competitors works like this:

• Record a 2 minute audio or video demo
• If must be a single straight take.  No effects or editing
• Upload it to SoundCloud or YouTube
• Fill in the registration form, making sure to put the URL of your demo upload
• Cross your fingers...

Registration closes on May 1st 2012.

The competition organisers shall go through all of the demos and select the top:

• 40 competitors for the UK Champs
• 6-8 competitors for the Womens Champs
• 4-6 groups for the Group Champs

- Vauxhall UK Beatbox Championships 2011 –

To launch the Vauxhall UK Beatbox Championships 2011 - the annual event that celebrates the country's best human beatboxers - Vauxhall Motors has created a pair of unique and working Corsa-shaped headphones.

The creation of this bespoke item involved a team of fine artists making a Corsa-shaped mould before intricately affixing it around Skullcandy in-ear headphones.  The headphones are fully functioning allowing beatboxers to use it in reality.

This great piece of kit, which is the only one in existence, will be presented to the winner of the grand final on 11^th June 2011, where they will receive the prize of a Vauxhall Corsa SXi and of course the title of UK Beatbox Champion 2011.

UK Beatbox TV is the name being taken on by a new movement in the UK Beatbox scene.  Looking to re-invigorate the jam circuit and get everyone stirring again, the group is working to co-ordinate jams etc.

The UK Beatbox scene has always been strong, but we're now seeing a new wave of young artists come up, turn of age and take to the stage in the UK Champsionships.  We want to encourage this movement as we think it's the main way that the scene will continue to grow, get stronger, and also to get better!  We have a lot of talent, but we think that the artists need to continually challenge themselves and each other in order to raise their game and progress the artform.

Headed up by longtime UK scene leaders yasSon, Marv-Ill and Bass6, the group is already starting to stir life in old Dame Britain.  The UK Beatbox TV facebook group is encouraging group members to upload recordings and video on a ontinual basis and is the place to get involved.  Many of the UK Champs entrants, and indeed a couple of former champions are members, including MC Zani, Bellatrix and Reeps One.

The art of Beatboxing is up on the up, with artists Rahzel and Killa Kela ripping up stages worldwide and being recognisd as headline acts. Kela's advanced the recorded produced vibe, but for many, the real joy in experiencing the human beatboxer comes across live, hearing the voice box basslines drop and the snares and scratches slice the air. More and more promoters are wising up to this and booking beatboxers for sets to sprinkle their unique magic into the mix. But what about a whole night of beatbox battles, the best eight in the country, wittled down from regional and online heats going head-to -head, hosted by Foreign Beggars' Orifice Vulgatron with a heavy hiphop support lineup?

Sounds exciting ... It was.

Cargo was packed by 9pm, to see Dr Rhythm clinch the London heat and progress to the UK final eight.

The battle judges consisted of Foreign Beggars' Shlomo, Belgium's Roxorloops and Humanbeatbox.com founder A-Plus. Three of the best around. Just to prove it they dropped stunning individual intros, before Shlomo and Roxorloops duetted , inspiring Orifice Vulgatron to grab a third mic for some DnB MCing.

The battles themselves were hype, hype, hype, with many different styles being switched effortlessly. Special mention must go to lady beatboxer and online Champ Bellatrix for taking on, and nearly beating the boys.

If you don't know, It's not just drum machine beats, but proper reproductions of tracks, built up bit by bit, basslines, snares and kicks, then samples and vocals, and if that's not enough, then they scratch it up, slow it down and mix into the next track.

Like a virtual DJ turntablist battle, who's got the hypest tracks and freshest tricks, including rewinds, speed changes, and full scratch routines. Party classics, hip-hop, DnB and novelty tracks chopped up at will. Imagine 'Push It' then 'U Can't Touch This', chopped into 'Brown Paper Bag' and 'Metropolis' then 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better' and some Michael Jackson to finish...

The final saw Southern Champ Beardyman against Ipswich's Pikey Esquire. Two x two minute rounds weren't enough to choose a winner and numerous extra 'decider' rounds were needed, sending the crowd mental. Neither repeated anything all night, just infinite new sounds, including sampling the other one in response. In the end Beardyman finally got the decision, it could have easily gone the other way.

Beardyman will now go on rep the UK in the world Champs in Japan later this year.

A big night, a great show, and a very good night for the Beatbox movement.
