What is the judging criteria?

Judges will be looking for many things in your eliminations and battles rounds. These can include:

  • Musicality (composition, pitch, tone, structure, timing)
  • Technicality (tone, clarity of sounds, complexity of beats and rhythms, flow)
  • Originality (uniqueness, innovation, freshness)
  • Performance (stage presence, captivation, audience, confidence, battle prowess)
How are the eliminations judged?

Judges will rank competitors based on the judging criteria outlined. The rankings from each category’s three judges will then be combined and calculated to determine the following qualifiers:

  • Top 16 Solo

  • Top 4 Teams

  • Top 4 Loopstation

  • Top 4 Under 18

These results will then be used to determine the battle brackets for each category.

Following feedback from last year, we will also aim to publish the overall elimination rankings for each category. This will allow competitors who do not qualify for the battle rounds to see where they placed in the eliminations and gain a better understanding of their performance relative to the rest of the field.

The qualifiers and battle brackets are currently scheduled to be announced at the conclusion of the Elimination Day on 17th October (with the exception of the U18 category who find out directly after their elimination rounds), although this is subject to change. They will also be published online via the UKBC Instagram and Facebook pages.

Solo Elimination Rounds

Solo competitors will perform a 1 minute 30 second elimination routine on 17th October 2026.

Once all competitors have performed, the judges will rank the results and determine the Top 16 competitors, who will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026. The battle brackets are currently scheduled to be announced at the conclusion of the Elimination Day, although this is subject to change.

Following feedback from previous events, we will also aim to publish the overall elimination rankings, allowing competitors to see their final placement even if they do not qualify for the Top 16.

Competitors must be present and ready when called. If you miss your name being called or are not in the venue at the time of your performance slot, you may forfeit your place in the eliminations and a reserve participant may be called upon to take your position.

Once the timer has started, it may only be stopped or reset in the event of a technical issue, such as a microphone or sound system malfunction. Performance errors or mistakes made by the competitor will not be grounds for a restart.

Loopstation Elimination Rounds

Loopstation competitors will perform an elimination round of 3 minutes and a maximum of 3 minutes 30 seconds in length on 17th October 2026.

Once all competitors have performed, the judges will rank the results and determine the Top 4 competitors, who will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026. The battle brackets are currently scheduled to be announced at the conclusion of the Elimination Day, although this is subject to change.

Following feedback from previous events, we will also aim to publish the overall elimination rankings, allowing competitors to see their final placement even if they do not qualify for the Top 4.

Team (2v2) Elimination Rounds

The Top 8 Team competitors will perform a 1 minute 30 second elimination routine on 17th October 2026.

Once all teams have performed, the judges will rank the results and determine the Top 4 teams, who will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026. The battle brackets are currently scheduled to be announced at the conclusion of the Elimination Day, although this is subject to change.

Following feedback from previous events, we will also aim to publish the overall elimination rankings, allowing teams to see their final placement even if they do not qualify for the Top 4.

Teams must be present and ready when called. If a team misses its performance slot or is not present in the venue when called, it may forfeit its place in the eliminations and a reserve team may be called upon to take its position.

Once the timer has started, it may only be stopped or reset in the event of a technical issue, such as a microphone or sound system malfunction. Performance errors or mistakes made by competitors will not be grounds for a restart.

Under 18s Elimination Rounds

The Top 8 Under 18 competitors will perform a 1 minute 30 second elimination routine on 17th October 2026.

Once all competitors have performed, the judges will rank the results and determine the Top 4 competitors, who will progress to the battle rounds taking place directly after the elimination round.

Following feedback from previous events, we will also aim to publish the overall elimination rankings, allowing competitors to see their final placement even if they do not qualify for the Top 4.

Solo Battle Rounds

The Top 16 Solo competitors will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026 and will be placed into a bracket based on their elimination ranking.

The Solo Battle competition will consist of a Top 16, Quarter Final, Semi Final and Final. There will be no third-place playoff or small final.

Each battle will consist of two 1 minute 30 second rounds per competitor, performed in the standard A-B-A-B format. Overtime rounds are not planned.

In the unlikely event that an overtime round is required, it will take place immediately following the battle. Overtime round lengths and any additional format details will be determined by the organisers and communicated to competitors prior to the event and/or before the battle rounds commence.

A coin toss will take place before the start of each battle. The winner of the coin toss may choose whether to perform first or second. Once this decision has been made, the order will remain the same throughout the battle. For example, if Beatboxer A wins the coin toss and chooses to go first, the battle order will be:

Beatboxer A → Beatboxer B → Beatboxer A → Beatboxer B

Competitors must be present and ready when called. If you miss your name being called or are not in the venue and prepared to enter the stage for your battle, you may forfeit your place in the competition. If your opponent is present and ready to compete, they may advance to the next round by default.

Once the timer has started, it may only be stopped or reset in the event of a technical issue, such as a microphone or sound system malfunction. Performance errors or mistakes made by competitors will not be grounds for a restart. This policy is in place to ensure fairness across all battles.

Any inappropriate physical contact with another competitor may result in immediate disqualification. Competitors are encouraged to express themselves through their performance and stage presence while respecting the personal space and safety of others at all times.

Team (2v2) Battle Rounds

The Top 4 Teams will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026 and will be placed into a bracket based on their elimination ranking.

The Team Battle competition will consist of a Semi Final and Final. There will be no third-place playoff or small final.

Each battle will consist of two 1 minute 30 second rounds per team (FYI this is newly updated times compared to the previous years of 2 minute rounds), performed in the standard A-B-A-B format.

A coin toss will take place before the start of each battle. The winner of the coin toss may choose whether to perform first or second. Once this decision has been made, the order will remain the same throughout the battle. For example, if Team A wins the coin toss and chooses to go first, the battle order will be:

Team A → Team B → Team A → Team B

Overtime rounds are not planned. In the unlikely event that an overtime round is required, it will take place immediately following the battle. Any overtime format, including reduced round lengths, will be announced and communicated to competitors before the battle rounds begin.

Teams must be present and ready when called. If a team misses its call time or is not in the venue and prepared to enter the stage for its battle, it may forfeit its place in the competition. If the opposing team is present and ready to compete, it may advance to the next round by default.

Under 18s Battle Rounds

The Top 4 Under 18 competitors go through to battles on 20th September directly after Eliminations have been ranked. They will be placed into a bracket based on their Elimination ranking. There will be a Semi Final and Final round, there will be no small final/3rd place battle. Each solo competitor will perform a 1:30min round twice in the standard A-B-A-B format. There will be no overtime.

There will be a coin toss at the start of each battle and the solo competitor can then decide if they will go first or second. Once decided, this will be the format for the battle. So if Beatboxer A wins the coin toss and they decide to go first then the rounds will be Beatboxer A – Beatboxer B – Beatboxer A – Beatboxer B.

If you miss your name being called or are not in the venue and ready to enter the stage for your battle then you may forfeit your place and if your opponent is on stage then they could advance to the next round by default.

Once the timer has started it can only be stopped or reset if there is a technical issues such as a microphone not working. These will not be reset if you make a mistake, this is to have fairness across all battles.

Inappropriate touching to a competitor will result in a disqualification, this does not mean you can’t battle but use beats instead of anything physical.

Loopstation Battle Rounds

The Top 4 Loopstation battlers will progress to the battle rounds on 18th October 2026 and will be placed into a bracket based on their elimination ranking.

The Loopstation Battle competition will consist of a Semi Final and Final. There will be no third-place playoff or small final.

Each battle will consist of two rounds per Loopstation artist, performed in the standard A-B-A-B format. Each round must be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 3 minutes 30 seconds in length.

A coin toss will take place before the start of each battle. The winner of the coin toss may choose whether to perform first or second. Once this decision has been made, the order will remain the same throughout the battle. For example, if Looper A wins the coin toss and chooses to go first, the battle order will be:

Looper A → Looper B → Looper A → Looper B

Overtime rounds are not permitted within the Loopstation category. Judges are required to reach a decision based on the performances presented during the scheduled battle rounds.

Loopstation artists must be present and ready when called. If a competitor misses their call time or is not in the venue and prepared to enter the stage for their battle, they may forfeit their place in the competition. If the opposing battler is present and ready to compete, they may advance to the next round by default.

Once the timer has started, it may only be stopped or reset in the event of a technical issue, such as a microphone or sound system malfunction. Performance errors or mistakes made by competitors will not normally be grounds for a restart. This policy is in place to ensure fairness across all battles.

For guidance on how human errors and performance mistakes are assessed within the Loopstation category, please refer to the relevant FAQ section.

Any inappropriate physical contact with another competitor may result in immediate disqualification. Competitors are encouraged to express themselves through their performance and stage presence while respecting the personal space and safety of others at all times.

What happens if there is a performance error on stage?

Competitors are responsible for the operation of their own equipment during a performance. Errors such as loading the wrong project, selecting the wrong track or bank, deleting loops, triggering incorrect functions or accidentally powering off a device will generally be considered performance errors rather than technical issues.

If a performance is stopped following a suspected performance error or human error, the organisers and judges will immediately review the situation and determine the most appropriate course of action. Depending on the circumstances, this may include continuing the performance, restarting the round, or proceeding in another manner considered fair to all competitors. The judges’ decision will be final.

As part of the 20-year celebration and with D-low’s creative involvement as artistic director, we will hold an international battle to celebrate beatboxers form around the world and giving them to chance to battle on the UKBC stage.

The competition consisting of part invitation and part wildcard (online submission) entry will be the first time it has happened at the UK Beatbox Championships.

What is the format of this competition?

The Battle Clock Beatbox Championships (International Category) will work like this:

There are 4 invitees and (at least) 4 wildcard places available.

20th September 2025 (Day 1)

  • Showcase Eliminations of 3 minutes each
  • From this a Top 8 ranking will be decided who will go directly into Top 8 (Quarter Final) battles that night

21st September 2025 (Day 2)

  • Top 4 (Semi Final) from yesterday’s winners
  • Top 2 (Final) battle
  • Find out who the Battle Clock Beatbox Champion is!
How does the "Battle Clock" work?

The “Battle Clock” will works as follows:

As seen very rarely in the beatbox battle scene, this battle format will be using a ‘chess clock’ or ‘buzzer’ to pass the round over to your opponent.

Each battle will consist of 2 minutes of battle time, per battler (4 minutes in total). This 2 minutes can be used however the current battler chooses and they can “buzz” over their round by hitting the button on stage. For example, Beatboxer A could start and use 40 seconds of their 2 minutes (leaving 1 minute 5o seconds left) then “buzz” over to Beatboxer B who uses 1 minute of their 2 minutes and so on until each beatboxer’s 2 minutes is finished. Judges will then vote in the normal judging style.

RULES

There are only 2 rules for this category and these are:

  1. You must press the buzzer/button at least once per round (so you must pass the round to your opponent at least once)
  2. You can only press the buzzer/button up to a maximum of 6 times
